Health Sciences
Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences

This office coordinates health sciences programs and policies and provides oversight of the Rural Health Education Partnerships (RHEP).  RHEP is a statewide program that provides community-based training for students in dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health fields. The program goal is recruitment and retention of health care professionals in rural underserved areas. In addition, the office administers the Rural Residency program, which provides grants to extend graduate medical education to rural communities. The office issues an annual Health Sciences and Rural Health Report Card in collaboration with the state’s health professions schools and RHEP.

The office administers the Health Sciences Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to students in West Virginia who are training to become physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physical therapists. The students make a commitment to practice for at least two years in an underserved area of the state. The office administers the Child Development Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to child care workers who are pursuing associate or baccalaureate degrees in early childhood education. The program is funded by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.
