The
Chancellor's Diversity Initiative (CDI) was created in November 2009 by the
West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. The CDI and its coordinating
body, the Diversity Council, is charged with developing a system-wide approach
to create and support enhanced policies and strategies for diversity within the
state’s four-year public colleges and universities as institutions and
communities. Recognizing institutional missions, histories, and objectives, the
Diversity Council will offer advice and guidance on the development of programs
under the initiative and coordinate current and future programs to ensure a
diverse postsecondary experience at the state’s public colleges and
universities.
Over the next year, diversity strategies will be formalized into a system-wide plan, building on current programs and initiatives. The Diversity Council will assess opportunities for enhancements in the following related areas: students, faculty, institutions, workforce, economic development, and outreach. The Council will assess both system and institutional activities within this broad initiative for recommendations to the Chancellor and the Commission. The Chancellor will concurrently develop system-wide policies and procedures for providing long-term support of this initiative and best practices identified as a result.
